This page is a combination of Days
8 and 9. While seeing the man-made
wonders of Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse memorials we had the opportunity to
enjoy nature’s wonders as well. So let us
take you on a tour of the Black Hills of South Dakota.
The name "Black Hills" comes from similar origins as the Blue Ridge Mountains in the eastern U.S.
As the mountains in the east appear blue on the horizon these mountains appear black due to the predominant tree being the Ponderosa Pine which has needles that are dark green and appear black on the horizon.
