We stopped for a late lunch at the Yellowstone Valley Inn.
Then back up the road to the Rand Creek Ranch. Linda found out about the ranch from Sue, a member of a volunteer group she works with. Sue is the mother of Krystal who along with her husband Joel own Rand Creek Ranch. Make sure to check out the link!
The guest ranch is located about 8 miles west of Cody, in Wapiti WY. Wapiti is the Shoshone word for Elk.
The View from our front porch |
We had met Krystal on the trip to Yellowstone. But she is on a hiking trip so we won't get to spend time with her.
Meet Lauren... She is not only cute but capable. She will be our hostess and trail guide for our stay. Lauren is working at RCR for her second year when she is not attending West Texas A&M.
This is Blue. Named for his one blue eye. While nobody will admit it...He runs the ranch. |
Sunset in the Shoshone River Valley |
Evening fall on Rand Creek Ranch |
During the night we heard three coyotes howling back and forth. |
Then in the peaceful morning the sun painted the landscape.
Breakfast arrives on the front porch in a pail. |
Then it was time for our trail ride.
Lauren makes ready as Blue supervises. |
Joel looks on as us tenderfoots try not to act like anxious kids. |
This formation is called the China Wall |
Who was that masked man? |

Meanwhile back at the ranch... |
Two happy wranglers. |
Lauren was such a delight. She made the whole experience so enjoyable. |
It's no wander that they have return guest year after year. This is a great place to use as home base for a Cody - Yellowstone adventure.
The location is beautiful, Krystal, Joel and Lauren are super people, and Blue keeps everything running smooth as silk.
So, how long did you sit that horse and could you get off by yourself and/or walk afterward?
ReplyDeleteI was on for an hour. That gives me 1:20 total time. Not quite enough to solo! The stiffness set in the day after.
