Day 13 Monday 9-21-15 Cody to West Yellowstone

In the morning we got breakfast at Grannie’s Restaurant then down the road to Majestic Lube for an oil change.  Twogether was due for a bath so while we waited for the lube place to open we went to the wash rack across the street.  Cody is a nice western town.  We will be back after making the rounds in Yellowstone.

About 8 miles west of Cody is the Buffalo Bill Dam.  There is way more to the story than I have room for but the whole thing got started when Colonel William F. (Buffalo Bill) Cody got permission to divert water from the Shoshone River to irrigate 169,000 acres in the Big Horn Basin.  When his canal idea didn’t pan out he contacted the US Reclamation Service.  The engineers suggested building a dam to create a reservoir.

This tunnel is right next to the dam.

The picture is not backward.  We are going out the driveway.
20 miles west on US-20/16 is the Rand Creek Ranch.  It is a small family-owned and operated guest ranch located in Wapiti, Wyoming between Cody, Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park. Joel and Krystal met in the mountains of Idaho many years ago, and since then the west has always remained a special place. They decided it was time for a life change and to bring their family here to the Northfork of the Shoshone River to where they now call home. We stopped in and met Krystal.  She has a smile that makes you feel right at home.  We scheduled for a stay on our way back from Yellowstone going to Cody.  Imagine Yours Truly on a horse.  Stay tuned for that adventure!

We arrived at the Eastern Entrance for Yellowstone around noon.  Here are some of the pix of our quick trip Through Yellowstone National Park to West Yellowstone, MT.

You will notice that there are acres upon acres of deadwood.  This is a combination of wildfires a few years back but mostly from an infestation of Pine Beetles.

We arrived at Gateway West KOA ( about 6 miles west of West Yellowstone, MT on US-20) and set up for the night.

  1. You had me worried when I didn't see any posts for 2 days. And thanks for not posting any references to "moi" when you crossed the Crazy Woman Creek. :-)
Thanks for taking us all along on your wild west journey.
