Day 14:  9/20/14
Today we are going to the races.   We were given a page of directions to the speedway by the camp store.  It brought us out right across from the main entrance.  But the route was something else.  We traveled winding back roads and dirt roads.  But we arrived at the main entrance!

As we found our way to our seats the Sprint Car teams were practicing for tomorrow’s 300 mile race.  We could listen to Danica Patrick, Tony Stewart and Jimmy Johnson! That was cool.

There were three races today.  At 1PM it’s the NASCAR Truck Series 175 mile, then at 3:30 the Modified Late Model 100 mile, and finally the American-Canadian Tour 50 mile.  We rented headphones that let us listen to the different drivers and their spotters and pit chiefs.  That was interesting.  Also the normal start command “Gentlemen start your engines”, was changed to, “Drivers start your engines”.  Each series had a lady driver today.

Drivers,,,Start Your Engines...

Both the Canadian and American national anthems were sung by really good voices that didn't try to impress us with how they could jazz it up.

The Truck race was not quite as exciting as we hoped it would be.  Everybody got strung out in single file and there wasn’t much “racing”.  It was more like watching an exhibition.

Spin out on turn 4.
T. J. Bell Running a little hot.

Justin Jennings kissed the wall in turn 4.
Jennifer Jo Cobb get two tires an a fill up of fuel.

The Late Model guys (and gal) went at it.  They were racing for all they were worth!  Bumper to bumper door to door and then some.  One even ended upside down in turn 2.

We could watch replays on the Jumbo Tron

Wreck on turn 2.
Ron Yuhsa Jr. ends up on his roof

Drivers... Start Your Engines!

The American-Canadian Tour was a bit different.  Instead of the fastest cars in the front of the starting grid they put the intermediate experienced drivers there.  Then in the middle of the pack were the most experienced followed by the least experienced.  There was lots of passing and making up ground by the fast guy’s. As the saying goes "Slice'n and dice'n".

Race fans come in all ages

Some fans are intense.

The weather forecast is calling for rain in the wee hours, so when we got back to camp we gathered everything up and packed it away.
