It's September again and Linda has itchy feet. So this time we're headed to the New England states. There is a lot to see and do. Seashores, Mountains, History, Maple Syrup, and gallons of New England Calm Chowder! So pack a bag and come along!
Thanks to our beloved neighbors Ethel and Carl for posing |
After meeting our son and
daughter-in-law for breakfast we headed out at 8:15 AM. The drive north from
where I-83 turns north at the I-78 split has some beautiful vistas. Coming into the Lehigh Valley and through the
Poconos is always a site to see. Sorry
there were no pictures (man on a mission).
Near Middletown, New York we
stopped at a rest stop for 40 winks. (Not
as young as I once was) It was shaded and relatively quiet. Just as I started to make some zzzz’s, I heard a low flying plane...no it sounded
like a slow flying plane…how about a low-slow flying plane. Then nearly nodding off here comes another
one! Just out of view across the
highway is an airport/glider port and the sound was the tow planes pulling the
sailplanes up in to a blue sky with only a scattering of puffy clouds. The two planes took turns towing one after
the other. Well we’re awake now so let’s
move farther up the road.
Just as on our last trip north we
got that tug at the heart when we saw the sign for the exit to Newtown and
Sandy Hook, CT. I realize they are
coping, but the pain will linger on for a life time.
Traffic moved along quite well
and we arrived in Mystic, CT just after 4:00 PM.
Home for tonight will be Seaport RV Park and Campgrounds. Steaks on the grill…set up the cable TV…tonight’s entertainment will be the next episode of Big Brother.
Tomorrow we will explore historic
Mystic Seaport.
