Today
we left Grand Codroy Valley to drive north toward the ferry in Saint
Barbe. This was our first real
indication the moose season was open. Occasionally
we would see the hunter’s pickup trucks parked along the roadside. About half of them had trailers to carry ATV’s.
The Harbor at Stephenville |
Route
1 follows a piedmont type of terrain with a mountain thrown in every now and
then to keep you on your toes. There are
some pretty good hills arriving at Stephenville. We made a gas stop and got some
of the world’s worst coffee in Stephenville.
Two sips and we dumped it. That worked
out to about 90 cents per sip.

Going Down |
Then
we paralleled Deer Lake for 16 miles until we reached the town of Deer
Lake. Here we made a quick stop to buy
more grub for the Labrador adventure. At
Deer Lake we made a turn onto route 430 and headed northwest to Gros Morne National
Park.
We
found a KOA nestled in the evergreens near Norris Point and decided it’s a
great place to call it a day. Oh yea, I
forgot to mention, it’s raining again.
