10.3.13 Thursday Liverpool

Sue, Deborah and Less
We have neighbors at the campgrounds from British Columbia and Prince Edwards Island; Les, his wife Deborah and her cousin Sue.  A delightful trio and we enjoyed talking with them.  They are headed the same direction we are around southern NS.  Sue said to look her up when we reach Prince Edwards Island.

Just as we were packing up and getting ready to hit the trail I notice the four German couples had just pulled in.  It’s interesting to see how you catch up with each other from time to time.

Speaking of catching up…Les, Deborah and Sue left about an hour before us and when we reached Liverpool we stopped at the Hank Snow Museum and Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame.  They were just getting ready to go “I’m
Moving On” as one of Hanks song is titled.

The old Liverpool railroad station was turned into a museum for the hometown boy who would sleep there at night to escape an abusive home life.  Born Clarence Eugene Snow he was known by the locals as Jack but changed his name to Hank because it sounded more western.

Once Hank's music career took off he moved to Tennessee. Hank was instrumental in getting Elvis Presley’s career started.  Hank’s son Jimmy and Elvis were old friends.  One of Hank's closest friends was Ernest Tubb, who helped Hank reach one of his biggest goals, getting on the Grand Ole Opry.  He was also friend with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans

Hank had five closets of lavish costumes and always had a stunning stage presence.

In his career he wrote over 130 songs and performed over 500 different songs.

I just had to see this as I grew up on country music.  Hank Snow was one of my favorites.

We continued down the coast to Hunts Point and stayed at the Fisherman's Cove Campgrounds.   The boat is a replica of the boats made by the campground owner Dave.  The name "Our Dreem" was the first letter of each of the five children, oldest to youngest. Dave is the oldest.
