Tuesday 2/27/18

We spent the morning walking the white sand beach and splashing in the surf.

Last night's rain and wind made waves of sand all over the beach

Well, its been said the third time is a charm.  That wasn't the  case today.  Of the six lunches we had in Destin, three were at The Back Porch.  Shrimp Baskets to die for. Fish and Chips that are Heavenly.  But we're not sure what happened today with the Shrimp and Grits.
Per the menu...Shrimp and Sausage sautéed with chopped garlic, bell pepper, diced tomato and finished with a delightful cream sauce. Served over Rosemary grits with Parmesan toast points.  We thought  maybe the grits were supposed to be served cold.  The sausage was two little chips about the size of a thumb nail.  Diced tomato??  On the plus side the shrimp and cream sauce was warm.  When the waiter asked Linda if she needed a box, she made a face and said "I thought the grits would have been served hot".  He looked a bit confused and said, "They weren't hot?"   They reduced our bill and gave us delicious Key Lime Pie for desert.

If we are ever back in Destin we will be sure to visit The Back Porch...Just skip the shrimp and grits!

Still on the job.

In the afternoon we started loading the truck for our departure tomorrow morning.  Linda says it met all my expectations.  I think she would come back in a heartbeat.

Destin 2/24/18

 Saturday 2/24
It is said that Terry is fairly talented with his hands.  So talented in fact, working in the dark, so as not to wake Linda, he can jam the SD card from the camera into the CD drive on the laptop!  So the morning was spent trying to find a computer repair shop.  One won't open a laptop; the next is out of business; the third isn't open on Saturday.  So a quick trip to Walgreens for a precision screwdriver set.  With tools in hand and a straightened paper clip (not to mention the delicate touch of a neurosurgeon) Terry was able to extract the chip and all is well.

Sunday 2/25 Much of today was watching the #4 car of Kevin Harvick win at Atlanta.

Monday 2/26
We went to Navarre Beach about a half hour drive west of Destin to walk the quarter mile long fishing pier.

On the way back we stopped at "The Back Porch" seafood and oyster bar for lunch.  The sweetest shrimp we have ever ate!

Florida Trip 2018

This year is our 50th anniversary.  Jan. 27th to be exact.  Big plans to celebrate with the family on the 27th and head south on the 28th.  Linda was under the weather and it was postponed to the next week.  The next week Terry was under the weather so it was postponed until we return from this years Florida trip.
This is to be the honeymoon we never had.

We left home on Feb. 17th for Durham, NC to attend a surprise birthday party for my cousin's wife Connie.  It was good to connect with them again.  Then on to Knoxville, TN to visit with friends for a couple of days.
In NC we stopped for lunch at a truck stop.
The only place to park was with the big rigs.
Linda thought it was cool to have Big Blue
and the Teeny Tiny House in line with the big boys.

We arrived at Sea Oaks Motel in Destin FL on Feb. 21 and will be here until Feb 28 when we head east and south to Lake City.

The Destin area (Panhandle of FL near Pensacola) has some of the most beautiful white sand beaches to be found anywhere.  This part of Florida is called the "Emerald Coast" for good reason.  The waters of the Gulf are emerald green.
